FUN BARS FOR RELAXATION
|
| |
It is very strange to report
that among so many restaurants in this town, there are very few bars
where you can sit on the bar stool and watch the bartender
make drinks. We have therefore created a new page describing some of
the most attractive bars for reasons of price or ambiance or both.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that you will not be able to seek
female companionship at these bars.
ABACUS CAFE OPEN
BAR
When you visit this four-star restaurant
and sit down at the open bar, you will be greeted by M.
Renaud Fichet, a very enthusiastic French national, who
speaks either French or English very rapidly. One thing he
does well, however, is to concoct excellent drinks to make
you relax. As the co-owner of this restaurant, he tries very
hard to make you happy. You may even sit next to other
fellow travelers or expats to exchange experiences on world
travels.
Then, if you feel like having a fantastic
meal, you can move either to a table in the garden or the
cool air-conditioned dining room where you can have a
culinary experience, effected by the French chef, Pascal
Schmit, that you will not forget for quite some time.

GOLDEN ORANGE HOTEL
BAR
| The hotel's American owner, Doug, has recently
renovated his bar so it can accommodate a lot more people
than before. It is a pleasant U-shaped bar where you could
sit and enjoy good and reasonably priced drinks as well as
tap beer which is not only inexpensive (50 cents all day)
but one of the coldest in town as well.

|
 |
| If you combine your visit to the bar with the
enjoyment of a Sunday evening BBQ buffet (normally
American sausages, chicken, and pork in addition to
potato and green salads), you can really have a good
time
and a dinner for less than $10. Because the fresh
draft beer is very good (some 50 cent draft beer
places on Pub Street are said to use the expired
beer or mix Angkor with another brand), a group
could come and really have an enjoyable party. |

MOLLY MALONE'S IRISH
PUB This is a very pleasant bar with an
emphasis on drinks from Ireland. However, if you prefer, you
can still get all sorts of liquor from other countries as
well. Guinness is of course served.
If you wish to have a bite to eat, the pub has all kinds
of potato dishes as well as such fancy food as Quiche
Lorraine, fresh sandwiches, pasta dishes, Shepherd's pie,
steak and Guinness pie, chicken Kiev, etc.
|
| LE BISTROT DE PARIS
This bar is similar to many in Paris, for example, with the
French owner speaking to his French expats in French, so
unless you speak that language, you might feel left out.
|
| PICASSO
This is a very clean and pleasant bar with only counter
seats available. The service is excellent, and what is
really good here is their tapas: in particular, their
Picasso plate, consisting of ham, chorizo, pickled olives,
and feta cheese is very reasonable at $6.00. |
